So..I'm a worshiper. I sing and sometimes even play a guitar. I love some of the new contemporary worship songs coming forth from Teams like Elevation, Bethel, and IHOP. In fact I even want to write worship songs. So, lately God is showing me an elementary truth about the Holy Spirit which has me questioning some of the lyrics of our favorite songs that we sing in Church, in our cars, homes, and workplaces which (in my observation) do NOT line up with God's word. In the Old Testament God tells of His spirit "Hovering over the face of the Waters" Gen 1:1-2. in Isaiah 11:2 it says: And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him... So, Back in the day, God's Spirit was NOT in man kind. Until of course, Jesus came. When Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit descended upon him, in bodily form, like a dove." Luke 3:21-22. That was the beginning of His ability to Heal and perform miracles. After Jesus died and appeared to his Disciples, "He Breathed on them (passing His Holy Spirit from Him into them) and they Received the Holy Spirit" John 20:22. Then after that came the day of Pentecost ACTS 2:1-7 when His Disciples were touched with tongues of fire. Acts2:38 "And Peter said to the masses standing there, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." From that point on the reference to the H.S. is that HE is IN US!!!! So...here is my Question (references to follow): WHY do we keep Begging the Holy Spirit to "COME", "Fall Fresh", "fill us" "we feel your your Presence in this room"? When in fact, if we have Repented, and been baptized, His Holy Spirit is already in us!!! Folks....Stop asking for HIM!!! And start using the Gift you were given at the day of your salvation!! Its like getting married and and hoping that you had a spouse, praying to God for a spouse that you already have!! How insane is that!!! Dave Lage from HSLM ministries says it this way, "Why do you keep asking your father for the keys to the car when He already gave them to you?"
